New Shark Week billboard latest to accommodate 7th floor window at 292 Lafayette St.

Whoever lives there must have some pull. It's always a challenge for ad designers: making sure that the pain-in-the-ass hole doesn't fuck up your layout. The Svedka fembot seemed very distracted by it. Tiffany's Santa Claus board had a field of precious PMS 1837 Tiffany blue ruined by it. And, it seemed to serve as a dressing room glory hole twice for G-Star: first for a limber female model and then a pixieish male model. One of these days, I hope, some smart NYC art director is going to make the window part of the ad's concept. This is the best use of this coveted, high-visibility space I've seen yet. We can pretend SharkBoy chomped the hole in the board.

I cannot imagine letting that happen in front of my window without cutting out a large hole for myself. What's the story behind such ads? Are these people compensated in some way? Or is it an office block?

I'd cut a hole too, Rob. Those g-damned things should be banned. Hell, ALL outdoor advertising should be severely curtailed. It's getting Bladerunnish out there.
