Too many agencies use pro bono clients to create ideas that make them mess their pants. ANY pro bono ad--I don't care how pretty, clean, white-spaced, or whatever you're trying to pull off--needs a call to action to give. They're asking you for money. They need it to help people. They're not in the business of winning some wanking creative team an award.
I've worked with a lot of non-profit clients. Trust me, sometimes they barely rake in enough to give themselves a salary to live on. No one has the right to use that for their portfolio.
