In 1950s coffee commercials, men were assholes.

This has been posted a few places in the last few days. I just saw it again on Jezebel. It's only the jerk husband moments from vintage commercials for Folgers. "The desk sergeant at the station makes better coffee than this." Ouch. Related:
Racist Sanka ad from 1940.
funny Postum ad images from the early 20th century.

Jeez, thank go for 21st century men. I can't believe women had to put up with jerks like this. This was supposed to sell coffee, or be funny? At least one of the guys said he would get his own coffee at work.

First anonymous, back in the day women had considerably less choice. Now women are actually financially and socially able to leave asshole husbands and boyfriends. Or never marry at all.

The 'DUH! try to make better coffee' message couldn't have been clearer in the day, so why was Betty Friedan publishing articles about what she called 'the problem that has no name,' before expanding this topic into her landmark book 'The Feminine Mystique.'

If it's bad coffee, it's bad coffee. There's, thankfully, no "affirmative action" when it comes to coffee making. So, no sexism.
