Amateur Porn Is Born?
(click ad to read copy)
The year is 1972. The model is December 1971 Penthouse Pet Lynn Partington. (old men, do you remember her?) The product is the AKAI "portable" VTR 1/4" video tape recorder—the camera, recorder and attached monitor "weigh less than 20 lbs"(!). It cost "only" $1,295.00 (which is...a bunch in 2008 money). The copy reads, in-part:
"You'll wrack your brain to think of a place you can't use a video tape recorder. We're showing only one of thousands of ways to get it on...on video tape. And here's a great offer. Every buyer of an AKAI VTR will receive a personal invitation from one of the provocative Penthouse Pets to attend a video taping session—with her—in a city near them."
And thus, the death knell of clumsy "stag" films was sounded. AKAI went on to become one of the leading brands of video cassette recorders in the 80s. In 2004, they were bought out of bankruptcy. I do like the owl thing on the mantle. (image via) previously in porn: fake(?) American Apparel ad with rectal insertion; It's Friday: why don't you masturbate?; Chicago style realty Porn; New York style realty Porn; PeeWee's new friend Porny the Porn Closet; and the Village Voice Sex Ad Awards (VEXYs).

I like the honesty of the ad...because making home porn was the best reason to GET a video Camera back in 1972
Porn has been the driver in the adoption of most technologies over the past 50 years. Polaroid, Video tape; DVD and the Internet.
Anyone who tells you anything else doesn't have a clue.
Where was the ad?
Certainly in Penthouse. Didn't say where I found it.
"role of 1/4" tape?"
Give that proofreader a break! The Pet is distracting...as is that guy's cheesy robe.
Doesn’t she seem a little ripped for 70s porn?
NOT that I watched a lot, just sayin.
Hey, that's my mom! Ohmigod!!!
nobody going to step up? *sigh*– i'd do her...on video tape.
Yes, she's great
I watched her once in some smut archives
According to the Consumer Price Index Calculator...
