Context as we say, is everything.
Can't fault Mattel, it did not have then the vast more ethno-centric, highly original and creative names pool to draw from that we have today thanks to Jerry Springer and Maury Povich.
Here's a partial first names list of Afro-American women that have appeared on the aforementioned TV shows:
Aisha, Roshumba, Shamieka, Tawanna,Te-Te, Tomka, Lashanda, Markquita, Garcelle, Epatha, Aquanetta, Kimone, Reesheemah, Dejah, Vahentina, Repelus, Vescepia, La Quanda, Zanetta, and on and on.
GD One: "Well, why can't she be the regular Francie and the other one be the 'white' Francie?"
GD Two: "Well, that'd be just silly!"
THEN:
(Dark Donnie, Ken's new soul friend)
NOW:
(dark becomes redundant, any of the following will do)
Tyree, Jamar, Demore, Torusunto, Keeshan, Letrell, Diandre, Lebaron, Jaek Won, Ashonte, Dontrial, Lydell, Modo, Brizona, and on and on.
Anon: you stay classy.
Just like "Black Barbie" but Negro was the correct term at the time.
If she'd been a 70s doll, she would have been "Black Francie"
I'm torn. The name is silly, but I'm glad to see that black girls had the chance to buy a pretty fashion doll.
I am pretty sure TAN woulda chopped Negro Francie's head off and spent his QT with the other two dolls or at least that's what his blog leads one to believe.
LMAO !!!
Please remove this scan from your blog. My profile clearly states "no blogging" for any of my photos or scans.
I would appreciate it.
THESE COMMENTS WERE TOOO DAMN FUNNY!
Hey, thanks for just stealing a copy of my scan instead of removing it like I asked.
Nice.
It's removed. Happy? I've had my content stolen left and right, but I don't give a fucking shit.
Yep, happy. Thanks. If you've had your stuff stolen, then perhaps you should ask folks to not use it.
Well like I said, I DON'T GIVE A FUCKING SHIT. Did you invent Negro Francie?
No, I didn't. Did you invent being rude?
Anon: actually, I do think Copy may have invented "being rude"
he's particularly ornery when forced to parse someone's "scan" vs. someone else's "stolen"
