What the f*ck is a Creative Director?
Since I started this blog, I've been asked that exact question many times by non-ad industry folk. Well, there's no quick and easy answer. But, just maybe, by perusing this gallery of press portraits of CDs from around the world, you'll get a better feel for the elusive and mysterious Gods of advertising creativity (all images via BestAdsOnTV). Even though I'm only, technically, an associate creative director, I'll still add my pic to the modern madmen pile. Previously in Creative Directors: Donny Deutsch. Alex Bogusky. And, my brief, tense interview with David Lubars.

So a male then? Black mock turtlenecks also seem to play a big part.
A white male? Wait...is that one guy...maybe that's just a tan.
I concur: CD=WM
Where are the ladies?
Nancy Vonk & Janet Kestin for a start.
NOT Gods BUT Mere Mortals:
- The Card Sharks Brothers
- The Odd Man and the Sea
- Mr. Intenso Roboto
- Dim Bulb
- WWE's Thor the Gentle Barbarian
- The Rave-Fu Masters
- Town & Country
- The Avenger
- Fresh out of Bellevue
- Mr. Mega Hold
- Dust Jacket Man
The one thing not visible in these photos is massive, out-sized egos. Maybe a Google map from a few thousand feet up would do the trick.
strange. all men. where are the women in this industry!?
There are very, very, very few female CDs worldwide.
Except for me.
apparently, the only non-male CDs are in canada. STILL waiting on the non-white, non-male CCO (maybe i'll be the first?)...http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/rob-magazine/mad-women/article2036287/
