Vintage Ad of the Week.

(click ad, via) Don't know the year. It's a Russian ad (thanks commenters), though Chlorodont was apparently a German brand of toothpaste. I guess we can consider this the retro print ad companion to the most racist toothpaste commercial ever made. Previously in: Retro Racism.

"Tooth Paste"

the language seems to be russian. chlorodont was produced in the then GDR and thus had ties to everything russian.

russians use cyrillian font. the "X" is actually pronounced sorta like a "k" - it literally translates to match chlorodont

There's a toothpaste on the market in Asia (China) that's called Darlie. The visual on the tube is a black man with a big white smile (truthfully, it looks more like a man in blackface). When I asked my friend who works in Hong Kong about the toothpaste, he replied that the original name for the toothpaste was "DARKIE." The company changed it a few years ago. But the visual remains on the tube. Ho. Ly. Shit.
