Stigmata-vertising?

(click ad, via) For the Butler's Club of Montreal. Don't get blood on the silverware, Jeeves. It'd be more helpful if you could do the water/wine trick, or the Feeding of the Multitudes thing. Well, there are a shitload of churches in Montreal. And butlers and priests dress similarly. Other than that, I got nothing. Ad agency: Publicis, Montreal. Related: religious marketing roundup.

THIS IS ALL I HAVE:

On 20 September 1918, while hearing confessions, Padre Pio is said to have had his first occurrence of the stigmata—bodily marks, pain, and bleeding in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. This phenomenon continued for fifty years, until the end of his life.

It might be worth noting that in modern-day Quebec, religious allusions have a very different weight than in, say, the southern US. Religious allusions and imagery have a bit of a "hipster" vibe - something that once was cool and is now all but passé.

Not that I love the ad, but the cultural context is significant.
