Benetton unveils new campaign in Italy featuring Obama and Jintao kissing.

Trying to again stir up controversy via their advertising, the Italian clothing retailer today launched a new campaign titled "Unhate"—featuring unlikely duos planting a wet one on each other. In Milan, two ad banners—one portraying Barack Obama and Chinese leader Hu Jintao swapping spit (add Benetton to the worldwide Bam Branding glut), and the other, French president Nicolas Sarkozy and German chancellor Angela Merkel— were unfurled. While in Rome, in Vatican City, another banner was hung depicting the Pope necking with Egyptian imam Mohamed Ahmed el-Tayeb. Outrage to come.
It's not a new idea from Benetton. In 1991, Oliviero Toscani caused a shitstorm by shooting a nun and priest kissing. Ad agency: 72 and Sunny, Amsterdam.

Maybe Benetton should get a shot of Patagonian farmers (whose land Benetton stole) kissing some perky smiley Benetton PR robot shitheads.

...and unsubtle, and obvious, and heavy-handed.
If this ad was done by a student or any small company, it would have gotten ridiculed. But when Benetton does it, everyone raves about how great it is. Sick world. Let's just hope it doesn't pick a gold at Cannes.
benetton stole the idea for the unhate campaign from an artist in Colombia that made them in 2008.
