DEAD is the new BLACK

So you’ve probably seen one of these newish Kate Spade shoe ads. While Diesel has certainly upped the super-fucking-weird fashion advertising ante, Kate has herself a real mysterious story going on here. Dead? Passed out? Playing dead or passed out? Perhaps knocked out by the other woman? A fashion victim? Don't know how well it sells shoes, but I kinda like it.

LOL @ DEAD is the new BLACK

My guess is they were trying to highlight the shoes but they failed badly. All I can concentrate on are those "Glamour Don't" ugly blue hose.

If it was just the prone chick with blue legs, then we'd know she was dead.

I like em too sven. fashion ads are tough. I'll take your word on the photographic riffing. I am culturally stupid, at least when it comes to the high end.

Hmmm. We've seen this before. Out of frame there's a small house on top of the woman on the floor, the girl in the pink pumps has a small tan dog in a basket and the guy in black is 3 feet tall. All hell is going to break lose in a minute when the monkey birds show up looking for the shoes.

Sorry to be late for this, but I just wanted to add that for this ad to have REALLY caught attention, along the ways that I suppose the intention is meant, then another pose is called for.

The shoes would still be just focused on, same positioning more or less on the floor, but the position implied by the feet and legs, would be of a woman on her knees, not her back, and thus the people passing by are as if catching someone at a party working on.... well, gee, it ought to be clearer than what is there now. She isn't DEAD, that's for sure. And much more true to the parties those idiots are at.

Nicola Kuperus does this kind of thing much, much better.

%$&/· idiots!!! what happens when two women wear the same shoes? Here, it seems the women are the same, but NOT the shoes. I guess its what differentiates these blue skinned "unique" women. HAHA yes! yes! yes!!! but to complicated for fashion ad anyways.

Er.... this is more of the same taht steals from the original bad boy of "is she/isn't she dead" and "wtf is the story here" photography - Guy Bourdin. Check the technique.
