Listerine: the shaving cream of choice in 1940s insane asylums.

(click ads, all via) Collection of images from mid-20th century ads for Listerine shaving cream (dead product, I believe). Maybe the crazy-face illustrations are meant to convey the extreme burning sensation that shaving with Listerine caused? Of course, shaving cream ads haven't come very far in 60 years. At least these dudes aren't floating heads. related: the five-blade Fusion: A Review.

I can't imagine they are actually shaving with Listerine mouthwash, but they may be shaving with Listerine branded shaving cream...which doesn't really make matters all that better.

It's obvious the illustrator used 'stage' actors whose excessive theatrical manner of emoting differs greatly from their 'screen' counterparts.

They remind me of some of the art from the Tales From the Crypt comics.
