Vintage Sexist Ad Watch: the Cigar Institute of America, 1962.

(click, via)
Maybe it's his cigar smoke that's making her cry? From a 1962 issue of Playboy. The headline is a quote from Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the Brit politician and writer who coined, "The Great Unwashed" and other popular modern catch-phrases. Compare the ad to this—maybe more sexist, maybe less—Cigar Institute ad from 1959.

Of course Edward Bulwer-Lytton is considerably more famous for "It was a dark and stormy night."

I know I never feel better than when I'm crying and smoking a cigar.

Sometimes a cigar is more then just a cigar.

Bill said that he had  "hundreds of affairs" before "turning forty" but then he began a "concerted effort to be faithful," according to a conversation with Monica reported to the Starr grand jury.

This suggests that he began to have a sexual potency problem at forty in 1986.

A man who is periodically impotent and so fears erectile dysfunction when he attempts sexual intercourse has a reason to avoid it and to substitute masturbation and oral sex.

The reason is fear of failure. The Starr Referral says, "...the President inserted a cigar into (Monica's) vagina and then put the cigar in his mouth and said, 'It tastes good.' " This is a statement about Bill's felt need for a better penis, more dependable, harder and maybe larger.

I know human faces are not perfectly symmetrical... but the asymmetry of her eyes is driving me nuts.

Is that Tyne Daly in the photo?

Doubtful. TD would've only been 16 when this photo was taken. This woman looks a bit older than that to me.

As for the asymmetry, I'm wondering if it's an artefact of the scan... maybe the page wasn't flat, or something? Not only is her left eye higher than the right one, so is her left nostril.

I'm not sure about this, I've never needed a cigar after being slapped in the face. Although, as a man, I've never been slapped in the face, but I do find that slapping a woman in the face generally makes her cry.

it was a stark and normal night, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mite...
