copyranter has gone fishing for money.

UPDATE: I will post in the future to let those of you who care know where else you can find my trainwreck rants. A couple of new opportunities have already been pitched to me.
I'm done posting on copyranter for the foreseeable future, mainly because I'm tired of providing free content for dozens of other big name Sites. I'll still be posting on Animal New York at least once every weekday. Please don't ask me to reconsider/tell me you love/hate me in the comments; we already went through that once. However, my ad hunting/destroying skills are still available in column form for a weekly/monthly fee. But my daily blog-posting allegiance is with Animal New York. I'm also open to restarting copyranter (I own all the domain names) if you want to sponsor me. Just FYI: In about two years, I took my blog from nowhere to one of the top five or so ad blogs in the world—averaging over 100,000 page views a week—with praise from Slate, the Globe And Mail, Coilhouse, IFC, etc, etc. If you're interested, email me: copyranter(at)gmail(dot)com

We love/hate you.

I will miss the weekly bumps in my own traffic from your Link Haze.

100,000 a week is no small feat. Good luck.

Can't blame you my friend. The Gawker kids have been pimping your candy ass out for weeks. All the best.

And by candy, I mean peppermint.

Fool me once shame on you... fool me twice shame on... you can't get... can't get fooled again.

Going by our president's logic - I'll miss you, but if you're "return" was only going to be for this short amount of time again... why bother?

Lots of luck on animal and with your writing elsewhere. You'll do alright without the blog... and we'll just find others to read.

Cheers.

Fred Phelps is awfully convincing...

Sure you won't reconsider?

I'm starting a site (completely unrelated to the ad industry) and it's terribly time consuming to update so I completely understand your decision. It is very sad to see you go though. I just took pictures of some ads today to email you but I suppose there's no use.

Hopefully someone will decide to pay you to write, otherwise you will be missed.

the problem with monetizing this blog is, well, what advertisers are going to pay money to appear on here? & do you even want them to appear on here? (of course you don't.)

anyway, too bad. we'll miss ya. really. & sorry for not being a crazy venture capitalist.

Thanks for the insight, Fred Phelps. In the event of sarcasm: lulz.

It's a pity you're closing down. I would imagine the only incentive you would have (apart from your own personal enjoyment/fulfilment) would be the 'fame' that came with running such a successful blog, as you so tastefully pointed out in your final post.

With that diluted through plagiarism of your material, the more flexible option which allows you to write without being committed would fulfil the enjoyment aspect while eschewing the whole 'fame' (e-fame lulz) part.

It might be better for you, I hope it is. Good luck - you have some wonderful insights and you always find interesting material.

I didn't think you would quit till you took over from that douchebag, Bob Garfield. Oh wait, have you?

Well, I'll certainly miss your posts and mean insights. You're like advertising's Perez Hilton.

But you've already cried wolf, so I'm kinda blasé this time round. Although, if it's not fun anymore, what's the point of blogging?

Best of luck to you!

It's clear you had not been enjoying it for a while. 80% of the content posted here as of late are links with barely a line of comment. Anyone can fish around the web for links to repost, it is your personal insight that makes the difference. You know that all to well. Guess that is why this blog has been slipping from my top 5 in the last couple of months.

So I guess in the end it was for the best, when you're head/heart is not on it, best to let it go then. It was fun, while it was still fun.

Ranter, I can't claim that I understand the politics in the blogosphere, or the mechanisms of how one makes money using blogs, so I can't really comment on your motivations and machinations.

However, I'll say that I've deeply enjoyed your commentary, and think you have a genuine skill for it.

Good luck achieving your ambitions, and I mean that in an un-sarcastic way.

damn, i can't believe you are just giving up and trying to sell yourself to the highest bidder. and i always thought so highly of you.

booooo.

No, not the "highest" bidder. Also, you try doing what I did, day-in, day-in, finding the interesting shit not covered by all the main ad blogs. Do it for three fucking years, while working full-time at an agency 60-70 hours a week as the only copywriter, and then get back to me.

You can make money out of this blog, putting a Google Adsense column on it. It's almost idiotically easy to do, but I don't know how much money you could make out of that. Just a suggestion.

Jesus, what a whiner. For someone who tries to come off as fearless and unafraid to speak "truth to power," you are such a pussy.

Instead of bitching and moaning about not being paid to write your blog, maybe you should be paying us to read it.

Most of us will be able to manage to get through life without your "wit" and "insight."
