The Worst Copywriter in the History of Advertising™ once again clumsily tries to mesh social issues, clothing, and terrible puns in his new Fall campaign. Go to WhereDoYouStand.com to watch four inane short "films" shot by Sean Ellis and starring bad-acting models Angela Lindvall and Casey Taylor. Each one, of course, ends in a flip groaner. The War pun is a recycled gem from five years ago.
To recap, Cole has exploited dead Egyptians, the financial collapse, the homeless, Captain Sullenberger, WMDs, and yes, AIDS, to sell clothing and accessories.

i will buy some nice slacks if Sully instructs me to do so.
Sorry, 'ranter. The first headline - about same sex marriage - is good.
I just had a look at the campaign and especially the one about pro-choice and linking it to the choice of handbag. This completely trivialises the issue. Besides that, what the fuck does this whole campaign have to do with fashion?
The second "execution" is a ripped-off Bertrand Russell quote: "War doesn't determine who's right, only who's left."
Kenneth cole may be using important social issues to sell his products, and in the process he may be trivializing them. Yet at the same time, I think the company is definitely doing something that is getting noticed and catching attention. The ads are thought inspiring and the fact alone that they are taking a step towards normalizing touchy issues can in the long run have a positive effect on society (because media to a certain extent guides cultural discourse).
