The most magnificent beer ad ever.

(click ad) For Sakura beer, from 1924. Found here. That's how to do a product hero ad. Translation? Previously: the most magnificent cigarette ad ever (also via Japan).

The bit to the right of the elephant just says "Sakura Beer." No idea about the bottom part.

Interesting---using a beer named for the dainty sakura (cherry) tree--with cherry blossom symbol & a not so dainty beast. It's beautiful in its' way. Sadly, Japanese is beyond me... but am curious as to what it says myself.

The elephant's trunk draped around the bottle resembles a different kind of trunk, no?

I'm glad the words magnificent is still in use. These days things are mostly cool or epic.

Great find, Mark.

I love vintage Japanese ads. There is a blog with well over 5000 such ads. It's in Japanese so you may want to use Google Translate.

And here's a small selection of ads from that blog.
