copyranter celeb dish #1

Dennis Miller and JK Simmons are two of the voiceover celebs I've worked with in the last 10 years. One was one of the most endearing, engaging gentlemen to ever step into a sound booth. The other was the most bitter, thankless dickhead to ever make six figures for a couple hours of "work."

To paraphrase a gag from The Simpsons,

"Anyone who's been in a Brodway musical can't be evil."

So I'm up in the air on this one.

something tells me that Dennis Miller is an asshole.

maybe it's because he's somehow a Bush supporter.

JK Simmons rocked on "OZ".

I've met both, the dickhead is Miller. Can't say enough good stuff about Simmons, he is entirely the opposite of his Oz character, Vern Schillinger.

Come on everybody, I'm sure they're both horrible people.

Of course, it would make guessing easier if I knew who the fuck the non-Dennis Miller guy was. Even his imdb page really didn't help me very much.

I vote that JK is the gentleman. He works a helluva lot. I can't imagine that many people would hire him if he was a creep to work around. Miller, on the other hand, not so busy.

I'm sure it's Miller. I've always heard he's a dick. Plus, no man who can make a neo-Nazi murderous sociopath SEXY can be all bad. Plus, he's the yellow M&M, people!

To defend Miller...

I met him a few years ago, admittedly it was in a semi-PR type thingy where he simply couldn't be an asshole. However, he was really nice and supportive, and kinda went out of his way to be a cool guy.

Uh oh, something tells me I should've just kept to myself on this one.

If it matters at all, I also like JK Simmons. Sigh.

What happened to Miller, anyway?

I remember years ago spending time with him at the bar after a gig in Southern California, and he was a pretty cool guy.

Now, every time I see him I either turn the page or channel or click to another site.

I remember for a time in the 90s he was spending a lot of time in Europe with the wife and kids in tow, but then after 9/11 he had nothing but shrillness for France, where I believe he spent a lot of time.

Then he became a neo-con and did campaign stops for Bush and possibly Arnold (I may be wrong about that).

Do you notice that he didn't really go over very well with the right, either. It was as if he was too literate for them. But he had turned his back on his traditional fanbase with the newly embraced ideology, and there was no turning back.

I imagine he's pretty bitter about it all, what with other people finding new audiences while he failed.

I'm just sayin'.

I've worked with Dennis Miller a couple of shows as a member of the lowly crew. I always hesitate to label any of the "celebrities" outright assh*les because until you've walked in their shoes... blah blah blah... I can't say Miller was a dick or anything remotely un-professional. My take was more like in his mind he's a star and if you're not his equal then there is no reason he needs to expend any energy being nice to you. He comes off as cold and not particularly patient.. but still civil. Not a guy you'd want to hang out with though. It's too bad, I always liked his humor until he moved too much the to right. He's sort of the opposite of Bill Maher, another guy who I use to find amusing but became such a self absorbed extreme liberal that I imagine the only people who find him funny these days are Michael Moore and Daily Kos readers.

The celebs who are nice are much more memorable because they're a pleasure to be around. Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black and (don't laugh) Ryan Seacrest come to mind. (Actually in my experience most "stars" are pretty nice, comedians are almost all neurotic nut jobs though.)

Dr. Skoda/Schillinger (soft 'g') is a class act, all the way.

Uh, that would be one of my definitions of "asshole."
