spoons ARE love.
(click ads, from 1949-50, via) "After sex, can we spoon, honey?" Do you love your silverware? Not nearly enough, you don't. Post-war spoon fetishism via a series of ads for Community silverplate flatware. Middle left woman looks dead. Marketed for women who loved to read Harlequin romance novels?
... gag me with a spoon!
The one with the pink background, is that an ad for spoons or Real Dolls?
Middle left woman isn't dead, she's just a little surprised at what a cold spoon can do.
Community might have been good for twice a year fancy dinners, but I don't about "for keeps." Community was like the lower price point/Woolworth's-level of silver back in the day, no? Maybe the lady in the third picture is thinking,"He should have got me fancier Wallace silver instead and dammit, I'll still have to put out tonight as though he did."
"What better way to say 'I love you' than with the gift of a spatula."
"Is it kisstomary to cuss the bride?"
(customary to kiss)
This comes from the days when women whored themselves out for appliances and household items. Because lord knows you could never obtain those things on your own.
