World Wildlife Fund targets Spanish comic book fans.

(click ads, via) The Madrid office of Leo Burnett created this comic noir campaign for WWF Spain, and placed the posters up at a recent comic book convention and then in comic book stores across the country. I'm thinking such youngsters don't have much spare money to give to the WWF—what Euro-savings they have are probably already earmarked for upcoming new releases. So, probably just a pro-bono effort done with an eye on future ad awards shows. But awareness is awareness. The illustrations could have been much darker/better.

The latest beautiful World Wildlife Fund video that will save zero animals.

It sure is pretty though. And it has a really nice message. It will win a flock of ad awards. So, you've got that going for you, animals. Ad agency: Ogilvy, Mexico.
Previous WWF videos:
• Space Chimp returns to Earth. He's sad.
• Darth Vader's eco-pussy brother, Darth Fladder.

China Ad Watch: World Wildlife Fund.

(click ads, via) Geezer teens don't do the Dew! Goldfish eat dandruff! Viagra creates ICBM sperm! VW GTI drivers piss their jeans! Laundry detergent vs. Ninja death star blood burgers! Air freshener vs. fart bubble pants! Time for another installment of China Ad Watch—where I watch advertising from China—with a wary Western eye!
Here. we have ads for the WWF by the Shanghai office of Dentsu. Or: secret recruitment ads for the Triad. The copy translates very roughly: "we live in peace, then we can live forever." The visuals convey, I think, "hurt animals and we hurt ourselves." Relatively speaking, pretty clear messaging, People's Republic!

Space Chimp finally returns. He's sad.

Music video/"viral" video collaboration (via) between the World Wildlife Fund, Leo Burnett in Sydney, and Ben Lee, featuring Lee's track "Song for the Divine Mother of the Universe." I apologize, but I find this more humorous than touching. That's because I immediately thought of the hilarious Carl Pilkington trying to convince Ricky Gervais on his HBO show that the space chimps were trained to operate their capsules by way of onboard automatic banana dispensers. Today's WRONG campaign.

(click, via)
Just, no.
I now never want to eat fish again. Also, this song's stuck in my head. Also, the unappetizing human/seafood hybrid visual has already been done and done. You're selling food, doofuses, not a sci-fi movie. Ad agency: Hub Group, Melbourne, Australia. Related: here's the best fish head ad ever, for the WWF.

This is how to do a Save Wildlife campaign these days.

I'm called a misanthrope all the time. Which is absolutely true. Humans are killing off species quickly—killing the planet quickly—with nary a second thought. Try to bring a wildlife bill to the floor of Congress, and watch business lobbyists (humans) kill it, gleefully, like a baby seal. But hey, no sweat, we'll just go live on the fucking Moon.
And when I see stories like this one about the great Rhino, I feel ill. But bravo to Ogilvy Cape Town for pissing people off by bait and switching them with this YouTube hijacking effort. The agency says they increased online signatures for their client, non-profit Forever Wild, by 400%. Will it do any good? Probably not. We're only human.

It's the "Greenest" billboard ever!

(click image, via) The World Wildlife Fund and Coke (what?) have teamed up in the Philippines to erect the most eco-tastic billboard on the face on the earth. It's made of 3,600 Fukien tea plants, which apparently absorb pollution? In fact, Anthony Gao, a botanist who worked with Coca-Cola and the WWF, said each plant could absorb up to 13 pounds of carbon dioxide a year, on average. The plant pots are even made of recycled Coke products. The plants are watered with a drip irrigation system for efficient distribution. I'd be getting goosebumps if it wasn't for global warming. Previously: dying polar bear travels thousands of miles to thank man for buying a Nissan Leaf. Related: five instances of tragically ironic green marketing. And the worst Green ad award goes to: Iberia airlines.
