1968: Morton's pours salt in the women's lib wound.
(click ad, via) Ouch, bra burners!
It's time for a retro sexism-off! Which of-fends you more, modern ladies? This 60s VW Beetle ad? This 60s American Airlines ad? This 60s rice ad? This 60s Tab ad? This 50s IBM ad? This 50s Schlitz ad? Or, this Morton's ad? Vote in the comments. Update: winner (loser) is the VW ad.

man it's a tough one, but I'm gonna go with the vw ads...
I hate this BS. Advertisers constantly push sexism into people's faces and this have not changed much over the past decades. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Wow. For sure the VW ad...
the vw one! YIKES!
My vote is for the VW ad. Gotta love the image of the "furious" husband (not).
The Smirnoff one gets an honourable mention, for missing the point to a spectacular extent.
The rice - did they believe that both men and women were so stupid that a beautiful blond could sell them rice!!!???1/
VW. For definite.
I vote for the VW one.
schlitz! That one has been my desktop background for a while now.
It's a toss-up between the VW and the Schlitz ad.
VW. I almost chose the rice, but VW had like twice as much print and they really just shoved in as much bullshit as they could possibly fit there.
It's between the VW ad and the American ad... but I think I'll have to go with VW, despite the skin-crawling creepiness of the American copy.
VW- For Sure! The others are sexist... but kind of ridiculous in their sexism. VW is taking the sexism way too seriously.
shiltz
I think the American Airlines Ad is pretty terrible. The copy is explaining the extensive training of their professional employees, yet the image has a decidedly come-hither sexiness to it. And why is she curled up in a chair at all? It presents a woman as only having sexual value in the workplace, despite stating otherwise in the copy. Doubly insulting. And that's not even mentioning the equation of mothers and servants.
sad to say this because i love my VW, but the VW ad for sure.
The car ones--I can't decide which I loathe more, the "he lets me clean the vinyl buckets" or the entire VW ad.
It's a difficult choice, but I was annoyed the most by Schlitz.
I'm really surprised that no one said the Morton's ad. All of them are terrible, but salt...salt?! Really? It's f*ing salt; why would you possibly need to include sexist copy? And it's not even subtle; it's right in your face, "we know we're going to get a lot of letters from this" sexist.
Did I mention it's for SALT?
Definitely the VW ad. The Schlitz ad is a close second, but the VW ad is just a whole new level of irritating.
I agree Tasha.
Morton's Salt. Like it's been said before, they really had to go out of their way to make that one sexist.
I also vote for Morton's, because not only are they making the plastic surgery comment, but the image of the girl becomes less child-like and more Lolita-like. The fetishization and sexualization of young girls - VERY pertinent to today - yikes!
Gotta go with the VW, though the salt is a close second.
I hate to jump on the 'bandwagon' but that VW ad is unbelievable.
All of the ads are "ewww" inducing but my vote for most offensive goes to the Morton Salt ad. It's offensive not just because it's sexist, but because faces aren't the only thing getting lifted! The girl's skirt goes from adorably below the knee in 1914 to snatchatory in 1968. The Morton's ad is also weird because how many little girls that didn't almost die in a fire get facelifts?
Here's some historical perspective:
SALT - Ancient Superstitions & Rituals
The most common superstition in modern times is the assumption that evil spirits are roused if you accidentally spill salt...
OTHER:
- You can tell if a girl is a virgin if she forgets to put salt onto the table

VW is by far the worst. Beliefs like "women are bad drivers" keep women from having full real lives, because the men around them value the cars more than their freedom.
To me, it's between the Schlitz and Volkswagen. In the other ads, women are playing roles, which implies choices. The Schlitz and VW executions imply things intrinsic about women's natures - that no matter what they want or aspire to, they'll always burn the toast or crash the car. And since I enjoyed many a good Schlitz buzz in my Queens childhood (there was no such word as "tween," and the drinking age was 18 after all), I've got to go with the VW as the most sexist.
VW all the way.
Voting salt here. It's an ASS-salt on women! (a ha ha haaaaa)
i think they are all awesome!
actually now that i looked at them, i like the rice ad best, but it should have been an asian girl ala dov charney.
