You Can't Spell You Know What Without a 'Z'

The Head of DaimlerChrysler, Dieter "Dr. Z" Zetsche, freaks me the fuck out. I'm sure you've seen some of the new "funny" commercials featuring the German engineer (Here's 1). While I'm pretty confident he's not a Nazi, he sure as shit looks like a Heinrich Himmler straight outta Central Casting. Meanwhile, the spots have failed to generate sales.

CE-O what a mistake

I wouldn't be so sure that he isn't a Nazi. The goofball asking him questions in the commercial is none other than the Gay Ku Klux Klansmen from Chapelle Show.

oh man I am glad you hit this. Has that fucker ever acted in his life? He sounds so timid and uncomfortable.

Not only does he have an extensive acting resume but he's also an accomplished writer (cabin fever)!

and he point-blank refuses to answer the important question of whether his moustache is real or not.

Dr Z's acting career is limited to German vegetable porn. Which reminds me- it's lunchtime!

Is there any doubt that the underlying tone of the ads is, "Ruthless Nazi efficiency beats Japanese Kaizen."

I heard a snag in the latest UAW talks centered around the introduction of coolers near the assembly lines.

And the underlying message to Chrysler should be don’t swap out rednecks for Nazis.

Actually I think DaimlerChrysler is trying to buy into the German is trendy thing, a la Heidi Klum.

Project Runway is HOT right now.

JD Power gave his moustache ride a top rating in its class.

I know this will result in my ritual shaming and shunning by copyranter, but I have to admit, I do find the "Dr. Z" campaign (I mostly hear his radio spots) humorous. Not laugh-out-loud funny, but humorous. It's his accent: it sounds so fake, yet it's real! And for a corporate bigwig, I think he does a very good job acting. I also like that the Germans actually have corporate head honchos with doctorates; in America, it's whatever asshole can get an MBA and backstab his way to the top.

Didn't Volkswagen air commercials of a crazy German engineer just months ago? Where's the originality?

More of the same hacky joke: get a non urban person (WASP, old lady) and make them talk/act ghetto. Instant funny to young males.

As Johnny Rotten said to Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy, "BORING Sidney....BORING!!"

this campaign makes me want to commit a murder-suicide with Dr. Z.
