Ad Creep Update: "hair" hockey tables (WTF)?

(click image, via) It's time for another Ad Creep Update—the ongoing feature where I document the 21st century epidemic of advertising media placement seeping into every nook and cranny of your daily life.
Procter & Gamble wanted to let young Filipino women know that washing their heads with Rejoice shampoo (the #1 brand in Asia) results in "extra smooth hair." So, via Leo Burnett Manila, they placed these specially-branded air hockey tables in malls and college dorms and such. They are bizarre. And is air hockey big with women in the Philippines? Here in the States, it's more of a drunken male pastime. In fact, I'm picturing young men doing things to and on these tables. Unsavory, untoward things. Creepy Ad Creep Update: the airport luggage carousel (again).

(click image, via) Ad Creep Update is a regular copyranter feature documenting the spreading epidemic of advertising media placement seeping into every nook and cranny of your daily life. Placed by Iberia Airlines at Pinto Martins airport in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil promoting direct flights to Madrid. Olé!—we've lost your luggage. Just give me my fucking bags, "brave" bull killer.
Ad agency: Verve Comunicação, Brazil.
Previous luggage carousel adverts:
•  carousel turned into swimming pool.
• Amnesty International stuffs woman in plastic suitcase to promote human trafficking awareness.
Related: DON'T put these stickers on luggage.

Ad Creep Update: fake bird shit stickers.

(click image, via) Ad Creep Update is a regular copyranter feature documenting the spreading epidemic of advertising media placement seeping into every nook and cranny of your daily life. Oh shit! Bird shit! Wait! Fuck! It's a goddamn sticker! A sticker for a car wash. A car wash I will now never go to because they pissed me off twice with their ambient "free media" idea. The agency says "calls went up 45%" due to this stunt. I catch you putting a sticker on my non-existent car, you better run. Ad agency: 1pointsize, Chennai, India. Previously, a Zurich insurance company put fake damage stickers on cars.

Bus Ad Creep Update: Indus Pride non-alcoholic beer.

(click image, via) It's Ad Creep update time!—the copyranter feature chronicling the modern phenomenon of ads creeping into every nook and cranny of your daily lives. The where: airport transit buses in India. The what: a new SAB Miller non-alcoholic beer (blecch) called Indus Pride. The how: plastic handles resembling beer mugs were attached to overhead bars in the buses. The verdict: they don't look very safe, though they do make thirsty to get drunk. By O&M Bangalore. This is not the first instance of straphanging-vertising we've seen: previously, an Indonesian hair salon placed fake hanging ponytails in commuter buses.

Ad Creep Update: hairy straphanging.

(click image) Ponytailvertising. Unorthodox, skeevy ambient ad placement, via Indonesia. Johnny Andrean, a well-known local beauty salon franchise, sought to cheaply promote a new hair strengthening product. So, their ad agency, Fortune, hung these hair (fake, I hope) handles with product cards in some Jakarta commuter trains. I don't see this type of hype ever happening on my A train ride (image via). Ad Creep Update: women's thighs.

(click image, via) How's this for invasive advertising? Superette, an Auckland boutique chain, wanted to promote a short shorts sale. From ad agency DDB Auckland's press note:
"We put indented plates on bus stop, mall, and park benches, so that when people sat down, the message was imprinted on their thighs. This meant that as well as having branded seats, a veritable army of free media was created, with thousands of imprints being created and lasting up to an hour."
And, out of those "thousands" of imprints, probably none were readable. Is this the most invasive Ad Creep yet? Compare to this ADT one and these fake car damage stickers. Previously, Superette produced print ads featuring gory death scenes. Related: Dutch S&M magazine's Branding Paddle (nsfw).

Ad Creep Update: Decapitated Head Bowling Balls.

To promote horror TV channel 13th Street, ad agency Jung von Matt recently placed these custom-painted balls in several German alleys. Copy translation: "Scream your head off." For what's it's worth (not much), awards will certainly roll in next year. Previously, JvM designed the violent-est stationery ever for the channel. Previously in: Ad Creep. Ad Creep Update: public bathroom mirror tattoo stickers.

(click images, via) Thinking of getting ink, Henrietta Rollins? How edgy. Well, if you lived in Auckland, New Zealand, you could try a tat on for size thanks to these annoying stickers placed in rest- and change rooms around the city by Dermagraphic Tattoo. It's not the first time public bathroom mirrors have been used "cleverly" to sell something. I'm sure they fully compensated the various establishments for these surreptitious media placements. Previously in: annoying ambient public bathroom advertising. Previously in: Ad Creep.

Ad Creep Update: amphibious assault by Vitamin Water.

Earlier this month on the Dutch beach of Woodstock, swimmers and sunbathers were invaded from the sea by a branded guerrilla assault vehicle. The hatch opened and, not a rocket launcher, but a stupid DJ and dancing girls emerged (What, couldn't afford 50 Cent?). Product samples were distributed. There is brief nudity (update: now edited out). YOU WILL BE ADVERTISED TO (ad agency Natwerk, via Ypsilon2). Previous Beachvertising: Beach blankets shaped like pools of blood promote violent TV show. Mini KIA plane ad banner seen by 10s of California sunbathers.

"Resident Evil: Afterlife" Zombie Installation in Madrid.

Time for another Ad Creep Update, where I document ad media placement seeping into every nook and cranny of your daily life. This one was creepy. Earlier this month, "Hundreds" of zombie arms were placed in sewer grates, flower beds, window displays, elevator doors, etc. all over Madrid to promote the latest Resident Evil flick. Cheap. Impactful. Limited. Save us sexy Milla! Ad Agency: Bungalow 25. Previously: Let's write some better taglines for Jenna Jameson's Zombie Strippers.

The Dying Man Interactive Bus Shelter Poster.

(via) Perpetual dying man! It's Ad Creep Update time! How clever—and morbid! The effort is via Quebec's Agency for Health and Social Services. The posters were installed in shelters near schools to try to urge students to seek health careers. It reads "Push Here" on the hands, and the end copy translates to something like "make a career in health and social services." Ad agency: Lg2. Never has waiting for a bus been more stressful. Except maybe back in 2009 in Berlin where commuting folk got to watch a lovely domestic beating.

Suicide prevention hotline projected onto Belgrade death river.

(click image, via) Ad Creep Update time! Now that is some Point Of Purchase advertising, amirite? Get it? Purchase? I Fucking crack myself the fuck up sometimes. Anyway, here's the story: On average, 1,500 Serbians commit suicide every year, about 40 of them by jumping from Belgrade's bridges. So, the Serbian office of ad agency McCann Erickson created this (Danube) river projection message with the phone number of the local suicide prevention office and the line "you are not alone." Maybe not! There could be yet another depressed Serb waiting for you to jump. It also makes a nice jumping target. Neither of those comments is at all funny, sorry. Yes, this is real, not Photoshopped. It happened in August.
